Cost wise AMD’s Phenom X4 9850 is a good processor, but overall it’s no match for Intel’s Core 2 Quad Q9300. Extreme Tech performed a Quad Core showdown between AMD’s 9850 and Intel’s Q9300, in almost every test Intel came on top. Definitely X4 9850 is $60 cheaper than the Q9300, but spending few extra dollars will definitely get you a better system. The other factor in favor of Intel is Overclocking. You can overclock Q9300 to 3GHz very easily but overclocking X4 9850 above 2.8GHz will require some skills. The Phenom X4 9850 is currently AMD’s fastest chip and it can’t even match the performance of mid-level Q9300. If you are in market for a Budget Quad Core processor Intel will be a safe bet right now.
